WHO WILL BE THE THIRD HEADLINER!?!?!

Travis Hay has confirmed that the third headliner will not be Radiohead, Jack Johnson or drumroll........Britney Spears. Check that out here! Highly doubtful it will be Kanye West since he will be playing at the Key Arena on the April 16th and The Police have said that they will not play any festivals. So who will it be? Pearl Jam? Death Cab for Cutie?

I'm going to take a wild guess and bet on Muse.

Anonymous said...

It better not be Modest Mouse. Give me a REAL headliner please.

Anonymous said...

Agreed, no Modest Mouse.

Anonymous said...

Would it really seem that logical to have Modest Mouse close out the festival, when the other two nights appear to be ending with R.E.M. and The Cure? I'd think they'd be smart enough to try and go a little bigger like Sigur Rós, Muse, or somebody completely random like Nas. If you live in the Northwest and are a frequent concert goer, Modest Mouse isn't the most enticing closing act.

Anonymous said...

Saul Williams/Trent Reznor would be crazy...

Anonymous said...

A bit disappointing about Radiohead. I let the wild, improbable rumors get to my head just in time for them to be dashed. But to me, it was worth having Radiohead eliminated, so long as Jack Johnson was eliminated in the same breath. I mean, my lord.

And as much as I love Modest Mouse, I have to agree that they aren't "headliner" material. The vibe, the frequent gigs up here...it just doesn't add up to much excitement. Plus, I would assume they'd play #2 on the bill behind REM on their night...The same idea for Death Cab.

Muse would be amazing.

Anonymous said...

I think it would be sweet if it was blur or somebody no one expects, but i'm sure it will be modest mouse :(.

Anonymous said...

The only way i'll go now is based on the comedy tent, and it will have to be better than Roos cuz they just added chris rock...that's huge!

Anonymous said...

muse would be pretty incredible...i could dig pearl jam, even though i didn't get into any of their stuff after Ten...
i really doubt it would be modest mouse. at least i hope it isn't. i like them a lot, but their live shows have disappointed me in the past. besides, they're such a northwest band already, it seems like it would be a waste of a 3rd headline spot. i really don't see that

Unknown said...

NAS would be cool. Or Amy Winehouse if she got her act together.
An another note, what about British Sea Power. Not as a headliner but they will be in the US in the spring and appear to be moving westward in the weeks leading up to Sasquatch?! They have a sickk new album out. It would be awesome if they played.
It appears Sasquatch is going bigger this year. Three or more days? Comedy Tent? I cant see them picking Modest Mouse as a headliner.

Well, aside from Travis and his mysterious sources being pretty reputable, Radiohead will be back again in August, so it's a slim chance.

I'll second no Modest Mouse or Death Cab, although the Cure might have their day wrong. They said the 25th, sure, but they also said closing the festival. Unless it's a Fri-Sun affair one of those is wrong..

And, big a fan of Muse as I am, I hate to admit this..but they can't close out the festival with REM and Cure doing the other two nights. Hell, I'd love to see them, but they'd likely be the second band that night.

It'll probably be a MM/REM Sat, Death Cab/Cure Sun, and then ??? Monday; their best choices for headliners are either Pearl Jam (and I don't see them doing a back to back local band to close the show) or some unknown quantity that hasn't really been brought up yet. Of the other major headliners, Foo Fighters likely won't fly back from an international tour for a brief stateside stay, STP is back in rehab, and Portishead isn't even a worthy Cochella headliner, let alone someone you bring in to close for REM and Radiohead (and forget Metallica, are you kidding me?)

I'm already way more excited for this than I am Coachella though, I'll say that for sure

Anonymous said...

modest mouse is also touring with REM...them each headlining a different night...that seems crazy on uh, REM and the Cure seem like such a good match. the 3rd?
kraftwerk? uh, neil young? verve? nah. pearl jam? i really don't have a clue...

Unknown said...

haha hell no. Remember, Sasquatch is different from the big music festivals (Coachella, SXSW, Bonaroo, Lollapalooza). Theres a slant to indie rock, newer bands and northwest bands in particular. They wont have boomer artists or any huge stadium bands. that said...Pearl jam! Bruce Springsteen!
ps: what about feist? ..or Muse, ok.

Anonymous said...

How is portishead not a good coachella headliner?? They have a bigger following then you think...

The fest is FRI-SAT-SUN with the cure PROMISED a 3 hour set for a make up date at key arena. The breeders, Cure, cops, rem, modest mouse, national are all confirmed!!!! I hope to GOD it's not Muse. What a piss poor sub for radiohead....

No pearl jam please, I'll take the small date at the croc instead... Oh wait, there is no more croc....

Unknown said...

Can we expect that a lot of the acts playing Coachella could be possible candidates for Sasquatch! if there are no conflicting dates already scheduled?

If thats the case I hopin for Slightly Stoopid (even though they're playing Seattle in March), Aesop Rock, Portishead (obviously), Brett Dennen, Tegan and Sara, Flogging Molly and I'm absolutely praying that they can actually book Jamie T. I mean hell, if he'll already be in the states for Coachella why doesn't he hang out for a couple months and play Sasquatch!? Jamie T is the shit. Speaking of Jamie T, how about some other UK acts like Arctic Monkeys? The Streets would be pretty chill as well.

And I'm praying Kings of Leon will come out and play this summer but that is highly doubtful. A guy can dream though cant he? Oh well. Either way Sasq is gonna rock.

Unknown said...

is REM confirmed? I know they were likely but I haven't seen anywhere that said they were for sure confirmed. Am I missing something?

Anonymous said...

Nope, REM isn't confirmed *yet*. They'll be there, but it's just unconfirmed.

And it is NOT Fri/Sat/Sun, not with the 26th being the last day, the 26th of course Monday.

Oh, and Muse wouldn't be subbing for Radiohead, since Radiohead was never announced, never confirmed, only rumored. Just cuz someone got their hopes up doesn't make Muse a replacement.

Anonymous said...

How about a solo Eddie Vedder? He has solo shows booked through April so there is a possibility there. Pearl Jam is unlikely... they often do multiple nights at The Gorge and have no problem selling out the venue.

And I'm surprised no one has mentioned The Raconteurs. Not as headliners, but certainly second or third billing for one of the days. They have a new album and some festival dates booked in April.

Radiohead seems very unlikely. I think they are too big for Sasquatch. Much like Pearl Jam, they could easily sell out the Gorge on their own.

I like the idea of Kanye as third headliner. He has done Sasquatch before and I think he would be a good fit. As long as their is a bigger act as second headliner that day.

I would also expect to see Modest Mouse and REM on the same night. They are touring together so it just makes sense. Those two back to back would be a great combo, imo. An unlikely pairing but very cool.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, I'd love to see The Raconteurs. I've had my fingers crossed since I saw they're playing Coachella. And Muse would be absolutely amazing. I missed them in September and sincerely regret it. They're loads better than REM and The Cure.

Anonymous said...

I'd like to see some fun LIVE bands like gogol bordello, the black keys, the raconteurs, broken social scene, robert randolph band, mmj, etc. I love cds from death cab and the national, but they are just not festival bands. I sorta wish that the other headliner was Daft Punk...a boy can dream, can't he? But it'll be Modest Mouse :(.

Anonymous said...

Oh man if Daft Punk were to play I'd forgive the Cure admission. Nothing against them, they just don't seem a right fit for Sasquatch. Anyone know if Daft Punk is even a possibility?

Anonymous said...

pollstar says they're not touring...

Anonymous said...

There's still a chance that Radiohead will show up for Sasquatch. They've been booked for a show in Dallas six days before Sasquatch begins. Plus their first European date isn't until June 6th. They shouldn't have any reason to rush over to Europe before Sasquatch fest. Wouldn't Thom Yorke be lured toward performing at Sasquatch because it is environmentally friendly (Carbon Neutral to be exact) and because R.E.M. will be there? (This Interview clarifies that Thom Yorke is a big R.E.M. fan.)

Post Script:Travis Hay reconsiders Radiohead as a possibility

Anonymous said...

Sorry, anonymous, but that was put out before Travis dashed the Radiohead hopes (he even says in the comments otherwise).

I don't know, the Sasquatchs of years past have had some variety of headliners. Assume Modest Mouse/REM for the sake of argument, and then Death Cab/Cure. Last year you got Interpol/Beasties and Arcade Fire/Bjork. Year before had Beck/Death Cab/QOTSA, Ben Harper/Flaming Lips/The Shins and NIN/Bahaus/HIM. All kinds of diversity in headliners there. The year before had Arcade Fire/Wilco/Kanye West/Modest Mouse/Pixies all as one friggen huge main stage. I could go on and on (2004 was lackluster but the variety was there, 2003 was better and ditto on variety (Jurassic Five and Coldplay AND Flaming Lips plus DCFC/MM?)).

Point being, while REM and the Cure are really big, and assuming MM and DCFC are there, they've got great openers...there's not the variety. Quirky just got huge northwest band opens for oldschool alternative legend? Look for something different. Maybe something with more rock (Pearl Jam or something in that vein), something hip hoppy (Maybe not Kanye West (I HOPE NOT) but who knows..Bumbershoot got the Wu Tang Clan) or something else that's just different from what they've already got. Radiohead might qualify as that, but they won't be there. Foo Fighters or STP would though.

Anonymous said...

STP would be awesome and is very possible! They are already scheduled to headline The Rock the Range Festival in Ohio May 17th, so stopping by Sasquatch is what they should do! One more week and we will know

Anonymous said...

STP would be wonderful

No Kanye.. he's playin the Key on Wed, 04/16/08

Anonymous said...

The Long Blondes will be there. (they are in PDX 5/31)

M83 will be there. ( I had read somewhere they are in Vancouver Memorial Day weekend).

That is all.

Anonymous said...

i think i'll just say what everyone is thinking and say led zeppelin will close out the festival. ha. funny.

Anonymous said...

Okay...Radiohead is breaking up their US tour. Why? August is APW festival. I think they are here in May for Sasquatch. Obviously things are being kept quiet and outright denied but it makes sense. REM and Radiohead are great fans/friends of each other. They would welcome a chance to play together again. This is my prediction. If anything can convince Radiohead to play Sasquatch its REM.

Link? Anything other than some blogger's word?

Anonymous said...

Much as I believe Travis a lot of the time, some guy telling him (even if it's a trusted source) isn't confirmed.

And yknow, I bet a lot of bands playing a festival have tours that happen later as well. Just because the Foos have a Seattle date two months later doesn't mean they're out.

Anonymous said...

Radiohead is not playing, their own website has them listed playing seattle after july sometime...August or September....So there you are, check it for yourself.
Very doubtful that Foo Fighters will be there, they are playing seattle and portland 6 weeks later...doubt they are comingback from new zealand to hit up sasquatch and then head back home and then out to netherlands.

I hope I am not right and they do show but not likely.
I am still crossing my fingers for STP, Pearl Jam or Muse.

Anonymous said...

People familiar to the Coachella boards will likely have seen this.
But Beirut has scheduled a date in Vancouver for May 22. I don't want to get my hopes up but you never know.

Well, reread my comment about the Foo Fighters but plug in Radiohead. Especially considering it's months apart. Interpol was back in Seattle by October after Sasquatch last year.

Festivals, unless they're part of the bands regular tour schedule, mean virtually nothing in regards to a band playing other shows in the area.

Anonymous said...

Foo Fighters are in Aukland New Zealand on May 6th, then are in the Netherlands on May 31st.

I just can't see them coming back to the U.S. for one show then flying to Europe.

Anonymous said...

Sorry Coren it isn't going to happen even if you wish really hard. You will find out on Monday don't you fret.

Anonymous said...

Pearl Jam sucks. R.E.M. is quite enough 90's rock for me. How about some diversity... Maybe OutKast? Or BlackStar? The White Stripes? The Roots? The Black Keys?

Anonymous said...

Sadly The White Stripes aren't touring now because Jack White is touring with the Raconteurs, The Black Keys are gonna be in Seattle April 5 according to their site. And I totally agree with some good hip hop like Black Star, The Roots or even better Wu Tang. M.I.A. will probably make up for last year. I'm hoping for My Morning Jacket and The Raconteurs, maybe some Muse. I also hope for Beirut, No Age and MGMT. Also some good comedy!!!! UCB, Human Giant, FoC, Demetri Martin, David Cross, the Comedians of Comedy. Oh man I'm getting myself too excited, I just hope I don't squish my dreams :(.

I know that Death Cab will be there, what a waste.

Anonymous said...

Sorry Coren it isn't going to happen even if you wish really hard. You will find out on Monday don't you fret.

I'm not trying to say it's indicative of anything, I'm just saying "oh hey, they played in the general vicinity at some point in the last/next 12 calendar months" means absolutely nothing.

Pearl Jam sucks. R.E.M. is quite enough 90's rock for me. How about some diversity

Pearl Jam is nothing like REM and The Cure, no more so than White Stripes are. Who, btw, may never tour again.

Anonymous said...

Here's why I am still slightly hopeful on Radiohead. Thye finish playing Texas on Monday, May 19. That gives them one full week to do four Californian dates before playing Sasquatch on the following Monday. We know they will be on the East Coast in August. Wouldn't it make sense to do the West Coast at the end of May? Especially for an eco friendly band. This is the 2nd time only Sasquatch are doing three days. Don't they need a really big third headliner to get people to fork up money for an extra day? Personally if it is either Jack Johnson, Death Cab For Cutie or Modest Mouse I will puke. They are all second tier live acts. If it's not Radiohead I am optimistic it will be someone else worthy to headline and end the festival.

Anonymous said...

Actually it does mean something, if they played an area recently they are not very likely to play it again right away. They want to hit other markets and make sure they do not over saturate any given area, so in conclusion I guess the fact that a band has played an area recently does mean something! It means nothing?? Look at pollstar and tell me how many bands hit the same location twice within a couple months...very small percent so seems like your claim is completely wrong.

Anonymous said...

Festivals break all rules, and May to August (or September) is not what I'd call "a couple months".

Plus The Gorge is an entirely different market than Seattle. That's like saying playing Portland is the same as playing Seattle.

Anonymous said...

Gorge is pretty much the same market as Seattle....Seattle, Portland and vancouver make up the vast majority of people at the festival, the same as any Seattle show, huh seems like the same market to me....This is such a stupid argument on both our sides but o well. The point is when it comes to rumors and touring, the fact that a band is playing the same market a couple to a few months later Drastically reduces the chances of them at the festival. You really can not argue with that especially when it comes to big ticket acts. I am right you are wrong, the end.

Anonymous said...

If Radiohead did make the bill though somehow then I probably owe you a beer at the festival

Anonymous said...

..I can't argue with it?

Jimmy Eat World did a stint through the northwest in October of 07, then played what is basically the equivalent of a festival in December, and then will be back to the area again in April.

Death Cab did it in 05..they did some shows in September, October, November and then a festival like thing in December, all in the Northwest.

I could go on and on, but really, my point is: Don't count anyone out unless they've already got a conflict.

Anonymous said...

The Kooks are now playing Vancouver on May 24. Sensible add for Sasquatch.

It would be funny, and by that I mean incredibly disappointing, if the third headliner was the Breeders?

Anonymous said...

Weird a NW band playing in the NW a lot...wow good example buddy. Jimmy Eat World, haha they need to tour hard to build up fan base and for the cash i'm sure. The point is Big ticket acts like radiohead are not going to hit the same market within a few months, rare occurence.

Also i would like to know about these big ticket acts that you can go on and on about that hit the NW 2-3 times within a year? Please tell...

Anonymous said...

Listing off NW bands like Mountain goats, supersuckers, decemberists and the local bar bands don't count either...haha

Your "point" reminds me of the good ole saying- "Shit in one hand and hope in the other and see which fills up first..."

Anonymous said...

If you look back at past Sasquatch shows, they don't typically have huge "arena" acts like Radiohead and Pearl Jam. The only one in recent memory is NIN.

The Sasquatch headliners are almost always bands that do the theatre circuit and have more of a cult following and appeal to the indie / alternative crowd.

i.e. Bjork & Arcade Fire. Interpol & Beasties. Beck & Queens of the Stone Age. Ben Harper & The Flaming Lips. Pixies and Modest Mouse.

The Gorge holds about 20,000 people, so you want typically see bands at Sasquatch that can do those sorts of numbers with their own shows. That's more of a Coachella or 'Roo thing.

So unless they're drastically changing the feel and scope of the festival, I really doubt we'll see Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, STP, etc.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, I mean, Interpol didn't play the PNW twice within about five months last year. Oh. shit, yeah they did. Ditto Incubus. The Killers did it a while ago. Placebo did it last year, as did My Chemical Romance. I mean, some of these aren't my kind of bands, but they definitely are big ticket bands these days.

And hey, it's not like bands ever play back to back (to back) shows in one area either right? I mean, they can't possibly think they have enough fans to come out to support two or three shows in as many days, can they? Oh...yeah, they do that don't they? If a band can do two and three night stands and draw huge crowds, hitting one area twice in a calendar year is no stretch at all.

More on topic, Travis over at Ear Candy was talking about the possibility (slim) of the Kinks.

Laner said...

WHat do you think the chance of Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks?

Anonymous said...

The Gorge holds way more than 20,000 cuz the numbers for Sas 2006 Day 2 were in the 50,000 range.

Anonymous said...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gorge_Amphitheatre

Seating capacity is 20,000. No way in hell they could fit anywhere near 50,000... especially with the camping and parking aspects. Not a chance.

Anonymous said...

I don't know where you heard 50,000 but that figure is way off.
22,000 was the max capacity in 2006 (sold out on the Saturday and Sunday).

Anonymous said...

Coren not a single band you mentioned even comes close to being a big ticket act comparable to Radiohead...

There was never an argument about a band doing mutli night stands, that makes sense, what doesn't make sense for big bands is to come back every few months. Multi night shows are very successful for big ticket acts...tom petty and dave matthews do it at the gorge all the time.
Not a single band you mentioned is in the same category as radiohead, personally i don't even really like radiohead but that isn't the point. You have to stay on topic during an argument to win lil buddy...it's okay. The number of bands that do come back 2-3 times in one year compared to the number of touring bands who do not is probably less than 1% so your argument is mute. You keep arguing your slim chance in hell argument, it's noble work you are doing.
The Kinks would be interesting, hopefully the second tier acts are diverse.
Monday will be hear soon, then Coren can find out that his slim chance in hell arguments were without any merit.

Anonymous said...

regarding malkmus and the jicks, i think there's a high change of them playing sasquatch!, about which i am pretty excited. last time they were great, although their crowd was strangely small

Anonymous said...

The reason Stephen Malkmus's crowd was so small was because he was a last minute add.

Anonymous said...

You're hilarious. Really.

I'm not saying, never once, that any of these bands WILL play. I'm saying "just because of some far off date in the future that isn't announced, don't discount them".

"less than one percent"? You just said of "touring bands". Aside from really major acts like Tom Petty or Dave Matthews that only hit one area a year and do it for days at a time, over half of bands play one area multiple times in 12 months.

And speaking of doing 3 night stands, how is that ANY different from coming twice in a year? You're still hitting the same audience, pulling from the same fanbase every time. The only difference I see is people can't afford multiple concerts in one month versus four-six months later they can.

Anyway, my goal wasn't to point out bands as big as Radiohead, you asked for "big ticket acts that you can go on and on about that hit the NW 2-3 times within a year? ". And whether or not they're the caliber of or in the category of Radiohead is irrelevant, they're "big ticket". Headlining and coheadlining festivals kind of does that for you. Throw Queens of the Stone Age on that list, playing in both August and December in the PNW (hint: 4 months apart)

Quick, scramble for some other excuse to make my argument mute. Of course, since I'm not talking, my argument is pretty silent to begin with. Maybe you meant moot?

Anonymous said...

what do you all think about the possibility of the postal service or sufjan stevens playing? I realize they're not playing dates right now, but both could be pretty big names to add. It should be easy for postal service especially, if death cab is already playing.

If the third headliner is NOT Radiohead, I think a great "surprise" and dream come true would be Kanye West followed by Daft Punk. Oh man I just gave myself goosebumps.

And heres hoping for Destroyer, The Raconteurs, MGMT & MMJ!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Sorry, anonymii, but Kanye is far less likely than Radiohead, who themselves are about a 2 percent chance to play.

Destroyer is a pretty solid guess, but Ladytron and Datarock seem to be pretty much eliminated, sadly.

I think SS to be more likely than the Postal Service, who haven't done an album in years, and then even only have one album to pull from. I think Chris Walla playing a solo set is fairly likely though, especially with DCFC basically confirmed.

Daft Punk and MMJ are fantastic...but probably not Saquatch's kind of band. MGMT will probably be there though.

Anonymous said...

I know that both Kanye and Daft Punk will not be there, I was just showing what I thought would make an AMAZING final Headliner since the others are lack luster for me. But thanks for reaffirming that they won't be there. No hard feelings
