My Sasquatch! 2009 Predictions!!!

Using what we know for sure, solid rumors, distant rumors, gut feelings and a little bit of want here are my 50 or so predictions for Sasquatch! 2009:

Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, Pavement, Jane’s Addiction, Oasis, Kings of Leon, Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, The Shins, Decemberists, Grizzly Bear, The Long Winters, Patrick Wolf, Stars, Animal Collective, The Walkmen, Neko Case, Public Enemy, King of Khan, The Avett Brothers, Peter Bjorn and John, Monotonix, Sun Kil Moon, Passion Pit, Tobacco, Youth Group, Silversun Pickups, TV on the Radio, MGMT, Santogold, Vampire Weekend, Girl Talk, Nada Surf, Wolf Parade, Jenny Lewis, The Black Lips, Dan Deacon, Metric, The Wrens, Seaweed, Clumsy Lovers, Tenacious D, MSTRKRFT, The Thermals, Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band, John Vanderslice, The Duchess and the Duke, Eliot Lipp, U.S.E., Todd Barry, Zack Galifinakis, Patton Oswald.

What do you think? Obivously there will probably be closer to 80 or 90 bands, but that is exhausting. Last year I got 27 of the 71 bands right. How many do you think you can guess right?

Yeah, Neko could use a break from Sasquatch! That's cool that she is still coming to town though.

If there is a dance tent I think MSTRKRFT is probably a lock as they are touring this spring and it would be a perfect fit.

I also like Walter's inclusion of The Veils. They're not so well known in North America but are a great live band.

The headliner situation is still a bit baffling to me. I also wonder if they will also have "headliner" quality acts in the dance tent as well every night. And will this effect ticket prices?

I'm going to go on a limb and say Depeche Mode, Beck and NIN as headliners with Kings of Leon, Band of Horses, Franz Ferdinand, Pavement and Jay-Z as sub-headliners.

Patton Oswalt would be awesome. Handsome Furs would probably be more likely than Wolf Parade.

I know the pretty much the entire line-up, there will be some surprises for sure. The announcement is so close that the only thing I will leak is that Tool is one of the big three headliners.

Anonymous said...

so you are headlining a day?

oh snap!

Anonymous said...

Seriously, Tool???

Laner said...

Depeche Mode are in Europe and Oasis are doing a lot of other dates in the UK, Africa, Asia in the spring.... All the others guesses seem pretty plausable.

Nobody has mentioned the possibility of...

Jane's addiction
Smashing Pumpkins
Alice in Chains
franz ferdinand
broken social scene
Ryan Adams
Thievery Corporation

bss coming to the showbox earlier, don't think that will happen.

Natalie Portman's Shaved Head.

Perhaps Portishead or My Bloody Valentine? Hopefully not The Killers or Morissey

Well, you nailed NIN, Jane's Addiction, Kings of Leon, Silversun Pickups, TV on the Radio, and Santogold.

Someone said Gaslight Anthem - they're in too. Ariborne Toxic Event, which no one said yet, is also in.

So far that's all that I've heard confirmed (that I remember), but if I can get more, I'll let you know

NIN again??!! Really??? Do we have to??!! Don't get me wrong, they're amazing but let's have some new blood!

Anonymous said...

Some of those seem plausible, but Pavement does not. I've read a few posts speculating on a reunion, but it didn't seem very likely.

Anonymous said...

Jane's? Really? I doubt it.

gaslight anthem is booked the 23rd,24th,25th in arizona and nevada?

where you getting your info brother

Anonymous said...

gaslight is in nevada and arizona during april not may. They have a gap between may 9th and june 5th. I'd be pleasantly surprised if they were there

David Byrne = boring!!!

Beastie Boys = Been there, done that (only 2 years ago BTW)

Oasis = awesome!

So Walter, you think Doves will be there? If they are, along with Sonic Youth, Silversun Pickups, Grizzly Bear and Band of Horses, I'll have a great time. I'd also love it if My Bloody Valentine was there...

Anonymous said...

Band of Horses, Grizzly Bear, Doves & SSPU are all sure bets. I can't say how I know, I just do.

Sonic Youth & My Bloody Valentine = wishful thinking. I'm right there with you though Snave. If those 2 are both there, that would be pretty much make this years Sasquatch an all time epic festival.

For the sake of further speculation about an epic festival, how come no one has mentioned The Verve yet? They were ranked as a top 5 festival act last year and there have been lots of rumors of them touring North America again in 2009. Saw them at Coachella last year and it was amazing!

White Stripes first live appearance since Meg's breakdown a year and a half ago is this Friday on Conon O'Brians final show. Could Sasquatch headlining duties be far behind?

Anonymous said...

I definately think nin and janes will be there. Since this is nins last tour. I'm not crazy about janes addiction. But nins last tour should be awesome.

Also please please please let the hold steady be back that would be freakin awesome

"David Byrne = boring!!!" = FAIL

David Byrne as Sasquatch Headliner = MASSIVE FAILURE

Ben Harper will be there. Just got an email newsletter.

Anonymous said...

In response to Laner: Extremely low possibility of Ryan Adams. He annouced on his blog he was going to take a step back from music and disbanding from the Cardinals.

I don't give a damn about a single one of those headliners. Here's to hoping for a solid lineup at Outside Lands.

I consider the ball dropped.

Anonymous said...

JAne's addicksion, KOL, and Ben Harper?

............THAT SUCKS.

can't wait to go get piss drunk in the dance tent now and cry myself to sleep with the forgotten dream of Blink 182.

Absolutely LOVE the lineup. Gotta agree with everyone on the weak headliners though. Would have loved to see Depeche Mode in there.
I'm crossing my fingers for late additions of:
Late of the pier
Antony and the Johnsons
Hercules and Love Affair
Iron and Wine
Devendra Banhart

Either way, this will easily be the best 'squatch yet!!
